When Should You Schedule a Chimney Inspection?
Must schedule an annual chimney inspection before the start of winter. However, you should get an inspection if:
- The fireplace does not draft properly, or smoke enters the home
- Water leaks into the fireplace or firebox after rain
- You can see cracks in the chimney crown, loose bricks, or crumbling mortar
- The chimney area gives a strange odor
- There are nests in the chimney
- The chimney hasn't been inspected in several years
- Or you're not sure when it last was.
- You're buying a home and want a chimney inspection before closing.
